Presenting [The Audible Picture Show] and [Tim Hope]

The Audible Picture Show

Jaded with a world bombarded with image?

Discover what cinema can really do at The Audible Picture Show. A diverse range of inventive people - including some of the most interesting British-based filmmakers and audio artists working today - have responded to the challenge of creating short audio works for 'a darkened cinema'. The result of the simple and ingenious experiment is a unique and entertaining experience that gives the mind's eye a welcome stretch.

The Audible Picture Show is designed to evolve and adapt to each new context of presentation, incorporating wherever possible works by artists local to
each event. In this way, the show absorbs a little of the flavour of its journey, and steadily builds up an intriguing archive of works that can be re-presented in new environments, to fresh ears, mapping a modest sonic history. Continuing this tradition, a British artist based in Berlin (TBC) will be invited to contribute an original work to be premiered at the britspotting show.

Works specially selected for britspotting include:

'Insideoutish'
Combining brain scans and Jackson Pollock, filmmaker Andrew Kotting (Gallivant, This Filthy Earth) attempts a little dramatic earwax-shifting.

'Schnick Schnack Schnuck'
Audio artist Zoe Irvine (Magnetic Tape Migration project) creates an unsettling scene down by the river.

'The Modern Woodsman'
Animator and filmmaker Adam Clitheroe explores Nature vs Nokia.

'A Sense Of Place'
Tony Hill (Downside Up, Short History of the Wheel) takes a blind friend to a location new to her for a good 'feel around'.

'The Flimsy Horse (A Duet)'
Musician Daniel Padden (Volcano the Bear) evokes a mysterious aural landscape of disengaged accordionists, broken strings and fragile chandeliers.

'Blow Up'
Photographer Lucy Reynolds blows up Blow Up.

'The Practical Theory Of Mr. Clay'
A classic recording of the Austrian social anthropologist in which he expounds upon his truly remarkable ideas - which are not a joke.

'Imprinted On The Air After an Eruption in Nis'
Highly respected animators The Quay Brothers (Street of Crocodiles, Institute Benjamenta) explore a dark and unearthly panic zone.

'Helicopter Over Brizard'
Sculptor Ron Haselden survives an encounter with airbourne heavy metal in rural France.

THE AUDIBLE PICTURE SHOW is an evolving project with a rolling deadline for submissions. Whenever possible an artist who lives / works close to the screening venue is invited to submit work for each new presentation. In keeping with this tradition and with the spirit of Britspotting, we invited a British artist living in Berlin - the vert talented MOMUS - to take part, and we are delighted to present his new work 'Troglodyte Musicien'. MOMUS will be present at the event.

Tim Hope

After completing a degree in Theology, Tim Hope worked in London as a stand up comedian for four years where he created The Pod, a form of multimedia comedy using an installation in a club which became a radio show on BBC Radio 1 in 1998. At the same time, Hope was also experimenting with computer graphics and editing packages and discovered the possibilities of animation.

From there he went on to make the multi-award winning short The Wolfman ( McLaren Animation Prize - Edinburgh International Film Festival 2000, winner at the Japan Digital Animation Festival, and winner of both the Cutting Edge and Public Choice categories at the British Animation Awards 2000).

Tim joined London’s Passion Pictures in May 2000 as a director of music videos and commercials. His promos include Don’t Panic and Trouble for Coldplay and the award-winning I Walk the Earth for King Biscuit Time. Tim has since directed music videos for One Giant Leap, Jimmy Eat World and REM, and commercials including Hewlett Packard, “Bang & Olufsen.”
Tim Hope will be present to discuss and divulge some of his animation secrets to the britspotting audience.
