Vom 21. bis zum 27. April findet bereits zum sechsten Mal britspotting, das deutschlandweit einzige britische & irische Filmfestival, in den Kinos Acud und fsk in Berlin statt. Erstmalig beinhaltet unser Programm in diesem Jahr auch eine Kurzfilmreihe, die sich gezielt an ein jugendliches Publikum zwischen 13 und 16 Jahren (und darüber hinaus!) wendet.

Angesiedelt in so unterschiedlichen sozialen und kulturellen Kontexten wie einem palästinensischen Flüchtlingscamp, dem ländlichen Schottland, den Straßen Londons und einer indischen Großstadt, thematisieren die Beiträge der Reihe School of Life das Abenteuer des Erwachsenwerdens mit all seinen Herausforderungen und Problemen.

Sie handeln von wichtigen Schullektionen, abenteuerreichen Ausflügen in das Leben der Erwachsenen, vom Leben auf der Straße, von den Schwierigkeiten und Freuden eines autistischen Jungen, der Annäherung zwischen einem Tai Chi-Meister und einem jugendlichen Graffiti-Künstler, der Angst vor dunklen Kellern und vor der Apokalypse, von ersten Küssen, Instant-Freunden und dem erfrischend naiven Blick eines Mädchens auf die katholische Ikonographie.

Wir freuen uns besonders, die Reihe im Beisein einiger der Regisseure präsentieren zu können. Im Anschluss an die Vorstellungen wird es die Möglichkeit zu Fragen und Diskussion geben. Bei allen Programmbeiträgen handelt es sich um deutsche Erstaufführungen der englischen Originalversionen.

Floating over Kolkata
(Dir: Paramita Guha, 10:00, mit englischen Untertiteln)
Ein Kurzfilm über das Leben der Straßenkinder in Kolkata, Indien, und eine Reise in die Welt eines Mädchens, das Teil einer Gemeinschaft werden möchte. In kraftvollen, schönen Bildern und durch den Einsatz echter Straßenkinder als Schauspieler, gibt der Film einen ungewöhnlichen Einblick in deren Leben auf den Straßen Indiens.

Nostradamus and Me
(Dir: Éilis Kirwan, 16:16)
Dublin, 1986: Nora hat noch nie einen Jungen geküsst, aber wer hat schon Zeit dafür, wenn das Wettrüsten außer Kontrolle gerät und die Welt auseinander fällt? Dann tauchen zwei Franzosen auf, die ihr Leben durcheinander bringen: Antoine, der französische Austauschstudent und Nostradamus, der Seher von Salon. Wenn diesen Samstag der Weltuntergang bevorsteht, sollte man die verbleibende Zeit nicht nutzen?

Push Hands

Im heutigen Irland lernen ein junger Graffiti-Künstler und ein chinesischer Tai Chi-Meister den selben Strand zu teilen.

Killing Time at Home

Dieser kurze Animations-Film zeigt, wie sich Einsamkeit und Langeweile bekämpfen lassen: indem man einen Freund im Internet kauft! Aber was, wenn auch dieser Freund irgendwann langweilig wird?

Shadi in the Beautiful Well
(Dir: Mahdi Fleifel, 10:35, mit englischen Untertiteln)
Shadi, ein autistischer Junge, lebt im Herzen eines palästinensischen Flüchtlingscamps, wo er von den Nachbarskindern gequält wird. Als er ein Paket von einem Verwandten aus dem Ausland erhält, ändert dies alles...

The Ten Steps
(Dir: Brendan Muldowney, 10:00)
Katie muss auf ihren nervigen kleinen Bruder aufpassen, während ihre Eltern zum Essen ausgegangen sind. Als ein Kurzschluss das Licht im gesamten Haus ausfallen lässt, muss sie die 10 Stufen zum Keller hinabsteigen, die geradewegs ins Herzen ihrer Angst vor dem Dunkeln führen...

Strange Little Girls
(Dir: Savina Dellicour, 17:30)
Der Film erzählt von zwei jugendlichen Mädchen, die einen abenteuerreichen Tag in der Stadt verleben. Sie halten sich selbst für ziemlich erwachsen und testen ihre Grenzen bei Kaufhausdiebstahl und Alkohol aus, bis sie am Ende feststellen müssen, dass sie doch nicht alles in der Hand haben.

School of Life

Was ist das Leben? Eine Schulstunde gibt eine überraschende Antwort.

Another novelty of this year’s britspotting is our youth reel School of Life which addresses an audience aged about 13 to 16 years – and of course anyone older! In various ways, these Irish and British short films deal with moments of initiation and with the excitement as well as the problems of growing-up in various corners of the world, reflecting young peoples’ perspectives on life.



Floating over Kolkata is a journey into the mind of a girl as she becomes one of the street kids of Kolkata, India. The autistic boy in Shadi in the Beautiful Well lives in a Palestinian refugee camp and has to deal with bullying from the kids of the neighbourhood. While the two teenagers of Strange Little Girls dare to cross the boundaries to the adult world in today’s London, the two protagonists of Nostradamus and Me, set in 1986 Dublin, try to seize the day in the face of looming Armageddon. The film School of Life eventually tackles humanity‘s ultimate question – What is life? – and comes up with a surprising answer.

A short fiction about the lives of the street kids in Kolkata, India and a journey into the mind and life of a girl about to become one of them. Performances by real street children provide an unusual peek into their world on the streets of India. Finally, the question lingers: “Mujhse Dosti Karoge?” – will you be my friend?
