Im Anschluss an das letztjährige Seminar über Filmproduktion in Deutschland erweitert britspotting dieses Jahr das Feld: International zu kooperieren ist ein wichtiger Schritt auf dem Weg zu einem erfolgreichen Film.

Die eintägige Veranstaltung beleuchtet verschiedene Aspekte und Möglichkeiten, die sich dem Filmschaffenden durch internationale Koproduktion eröffnen und erklärt, worauf man dabei achten muss.

britspotting hat führende Vertreter der deutschen Filmindustrie eingeladen, die sowohl die Arbeitsform internationale Koproduktion erläutern sowie einen Einblick in ihren Arbeitsalltag geben und von ihren Erfahrungen anhand einiger Beispiele für gelungene Koproduktionen berichten.

Sonja Moerkens
Leiterin des Berlinale Co-Production Market Nach ihrem Wirtschafts- und Sprachenstudium an der Euro Academy in Köln, begann Sonja Moerkens 1991 ihre berufliche Laufbahn in der Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf.
Bis 2001war sie Assistentin des Leiters Dieter Kosslick und insbesondere für die internationalen Angelegenheiten der Filmstiftung zuständig. Sie organisierte Treffen zum Thema Koproduktion mit fast allen europäischen Ländern sowie internationale Produzenten - Delegationen und entwickelte den International Co-Production Market in Köln, der im Jahr 2000 zum ersten Mal stattfand. Von März 2001 bis Juli 2003 arbeitete Sonja Moerkens als Produzentin und Projektkoordinatorin für Gemini Film und International West Pictures in Köln. Im Jahr 2003 trat sie die Stelle der Leiterin des Berlinale Co-Production Market beim Internationalen Filmfestival Berlin an. Darüber hinaus übernahm sie die Aufgabe des Fund Manager beim neu eingerichteten World Cinema Fund bei der Berlinale.

Susanne Schmitt
Studierte Filmwissenschaften und Germanistik an der FU Berlin und arbeitete danach hauptsächlich als Dramaturgin, Script-Consultant und Creative Producer. Sie leitete außerdem Seminare zum Thema Drehbuchentwicklung und Dramaturgie, v.a. an der Masterschool Drehbuch Berlin.

Alex Boden
Lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und London. Ehemaliges Jurymitglied bei britspotting. Teilnahme am Berlinale Co-Production Market. Absolvent der Masterclass und Mitglied der Deutsch-Französischen Filmakademie. Tätigkeit als freier Produzent, u.a. bei Commercial Club Berlin und CinePoint Berlin und bei Soda Pictures in London. Arbeitet z. Zt für eignene Produktionsfirma Pistachio Pictures Ltd.

Following last year's seminar on film production in Germany, this year britspotting invites you to broaden your horizon by focussing on international cooperation, which is an important step toward project success.

This one-day seminar aims at exploring the different aspects and opportunities that international co-productions offer to filmmakers as well as the challenges they may present.

britspotting has invited leading representatives of the German film industry who will illustrate and explain what international co-producing means and give an insight into their day to day work.

Sonja Moerkens
Head of Berlinale Co-Production Market
After studying languages and economics at the Euro Academy in Cologne, Sonja Moerkens started her career in film business in 1991 at Filmstiftung NRW in Duesseldorf. Until 2001 she was Assistant to the Executive Director Dieter Kosslick and especially responsible for International Contacts in the Filmstiftung. During this time she organised Co-Production Meetings with almost all European countries as well as international producers' delegations and developed the International Co-Production Market Cologne which took place in 2000 for the first time. From March 2001 until July 2003 she has been working as Producer and Project Coordinator for Gemini Film and International West Pictures in Cologne. In 2003 she started her work as Head of the Berlinale Co-Production Market at the International Film Festival Berlin. In addition to the Berlinale Co-Production Market, she took over the responsibilities as fund manager of the newly established World Cinema Fund at the Berlinale.


Susanne Schmitt
Since graduating in film studies and German from the Free University in Berlin, she has been working as a dramaturge, script-consultant and creative producer. She has given seminars on script development and dramaturgy, notably at the Masterschool for script-writing in Berlin.

First studied law, German, theatre, film and TV studies at the universities of Bonn and Cologne, then MA in Film and TV Studies from Waikato University, Hamilton, New Zealand.
