GOODBYE
to the old place with a tribute to
ARTHUR MILLER
On the last three nights at the old place before moving to our new venue Next season Friends of Italian Opera · The English Theatre are going to move to a new and bigger venue not without saying goodbye to their small theatre, which has hosted them for 15 years. This goodbye, however, is easy to handle. Starting at the end of this summer a former 400m2 large industry shed in Berlin-Kreuzberg Fidicinstraße 40 will be converted into a veritable theater, that Friends will run together with Theater Thikwa.

The goodbye will be dedicated to Arthur Miller who died earlier this year. On the last three days of June director Kirsten Wendeborn is going to present a selection of Miller´s plays as staged readings “ a sad but hopeful farewell to both the author and the old place".

Quentin, dear no one they didn't kill can be innocent again. (from After the Fall)

Arthur Miller passed away on February 10, 2005. I'm in the middle of a transition - from New York to Berlin - can't find any Miller performance. But I do find: Friends of Italian Opera “ and we found:

A Tribute to Arthur Miller.

A discovery beyond the classics like Death of a Salesman or View from the Bridge - his later works: The Last Yankee (1993) and Broken Glass (1994), plus some excerpts from After the Fall (1964). These plays are not as well known in Germany and definitely worth to be discovered. After the Fall, the transition to the later Miller, is close to home and a turning point in Miller's career as a writer. But Broken Glass and The Last Yankee sum up a life full of theatre. American theatre lost one of his greatest playwrights - but he left wonderful plays behind ready to be done and done again. (Kirsten Wendeborn)
