who we are
britspotting, the British independent
film festival was founded in the year 2000 in Berlin in order to
screen innovative recent British film productions unknown to German
movie-goers. The idea behind the festival is to show films that
have not yet found a distributor in Germany. In collaboration with
the British Council britspotting has established itself as one of
the leading film events dedicated to showing films that represent
all parts of the British Isles, and work from Wales, Scotland and
Northern Ireland will continue to feature strongly in our programme.
As we introduced an Irish Focus as a regular
segment of the festival in 2004 britspotting now stands for British
and Irish film festival.
what we want
britspotting is dedicated to promote and
support new talent, and to find German distributors and audiences
for outstanding new British and Irish films. However, we have also
shown films by renowned directors such as Michael Winterbottom,
Mike Hodges, Conor McPherson, Thaddeus OSullivan, Ken Loach, Danny
Boyle or Shane Meadows to name a few.
britspotting is an independent project run by a not-for-profit organisation.
The festival team is made up of a regular staff of about 50 volunteers,
many of whom work in the film industry: cinema owners, distributors,
producers, editors, graphic artists, designers.
