Marc Evans’ (Snow Cake, My Little
Eye) urgent documentary lays out the case for the release of Mumia Abu-Jamal,
a former Black Panther and radical journalist, who was arrested in 1982
for the murder of a police officer in Philadelphia and has been on death
row ever since. William Francome, born in England on the night of Mumia’s
arrest on 9th December 1982 has grown up knowing about Mumia’s story.
On the eve of his 25th birthday, he decides to take a more direct involvement
in the case. In tandem with Evans, the journey takes them to the heart
of the US judicial system and face to face with some of the political
and cultural icons of a generation. Alice Walker, Noam Chomsky, Mos Def,
Snoop Dog and Steve Earle together with Mumia himself deliver passionate
contributions. Music is the film’s heart beat and includes artists
from Billie Holiday to Rage Against The Machine. Britspotting is delighted
to present the German premiere of this important film. Sa / Sat 12.4. • 18:00 • Berlin • Hackesche
