Although the outcome of the story is never in doubt, the tension and inevitable heart break are palpable. Tony Blair and Gordon Brown started their political careers at the same time with the same aim, they both wanted to climb to the top of the Labour Party and higher. Charming Blair turned out to be the better strategist, partly because he knew that “politics sometimes is the ugly business of making friends, keeping friends and being liked”.
