Shane Meadows’ (Dead Man’s Shoes) self taught style of filmmaking brilliantly comes of age in this his 6th (semi-autobiographical) multi-awarded feature. It’s 1983, north of England and 12 year old Shaun (a revelatory non-professional Turgoose) is the poster boy for troubled adolescence. When not being bullied at school, he kicks about alone, missing his recently killed soldier dad. Then Woody (Gilgun), leader of the local skinhead gang, befriends him (much to Shaun’s mother’s horror) and he soon becomes their lucky charm: a miniature skin decked out in Fred Perry and Doc Martins. However their carefree life of Ska and spliff fade away when Combo (Graham) returns from prison. Newly politicised by the National Front, he has other plans. Soon racism raises its ugly head and Shaun is in the thick of it. Already heralded as a classic in British cinema, don’t miss the brilliant Truffaut reference at the film’s end.

Es ist 1983, ein nordenglischer Küstenort und das Leben des zwölfährigen Shaun ist völlig aus dem Ruder gelaufen. Wenn er nicht in der Schule drangsaliert wird, hängt er alleine rum und trauert um seinen im Falkland Krieg getöteten Vater. Das ändert sich als Woody, der Chef der Skinhead Gang, ihn unter seine Fittiche nimmt. Von da an ist er ihr Maskottchen: ein Miniatur-Skin in Fred Perry Hemd und Doc Martins.
